Episode 2 (Part 2): I belong in the shadows, cause... I'm just a creepy cunt
Wayne: I mean... what about Wayne Barker? Where does he stand in all of this...? Well... fella's?
Rod: WAYNE Barker has got his work cut out for him, yet so had Rod Barker.
Felix: Rod, why have you dragged me all the way over here again? I'm glad I'm free from this brotherly-love kind of shit.
Rod: You still have a sister.
Felix: That's worse but... she'll do. I could have two siblings. Now THAT would be a nightmare and then some.
Wayne: Hey, look - enough of that. I'm over here. I've got my work cut out... yes. I'm in a bit of a pickle. Or to put it politely, I'm fucked.
Felix: Wouldn't saying 'I'm in a bit of a pickle' be more polite?
Wayne & Rod: Shut the fuck up.
Felix: Ok, ok!
Wayne: I'm bored in here, 'fellas.
Rod: So what do you have in the outside world that you want so much?
Wayne: I hate it in here.
Rod: Oh yeah, everyone would. But this is your punishment. Your punishment for landing yourself in with the wrong crowd.
Wayne: Look brother - I still don't like you, ok? I even take shame in calling you my brother... but you know what? You are my brother, and nothing's gonna' change that. So we may as well work together, as colleagues.
Rod: Colleagues, you say?
Felix: I'm bored... can you two hurry the hell up?
Rod: I know what this is, Wayne.
Wayne: Oh, really?
Rod: You've got problems.
Wayne: (Yawns) Oh... who hasn't?
Felix: I haven't. I just feel a bit left out. Chris is still mourning Florence, Rod doesn't want you dead, you want Rod dead but are too ashamed to admit it, Tommy's a dick as per and it's all too much for Vincent. Why don't you all grow a pair?
Rod: (Sighs)
Felix: Focus on police matters...
Rod: I think they heard that, Tanner.
Felix: Well boo-fucking-hoo, the feds are in town.
Rod: Someone tell these pricks that if they don't quit staring at us and listening into our conversations I will personally take it upon myself to snap their necks.
Wayne: That makes two of us then, brother.
Rod: What, they're the problem?
Wayne: Those Karetians.
Rod: I see.
Kiefer: Woah, woah, WOAH! Peter Walsh on a boat Damien, your arms are waving all over the option like an octopus. Where's your dignity gone? Come here.
Kiefer: When you're going for the stomach, make it a nice jab and then pull back. It doesn't have to be rapid, smoothness is the key, then that sets up nicely for another shot. You have more time to think, boy. Time to think!
Chris: Kiefer, it's just me.
Kiefer: JUST you? JUST you!? It's Chris bloody Osborne, I've been waiting to see you for so long!
Kiefer: Come on in, it's good to see you again bud.
Chris: Likewise.
Kiefer: You know, me and you are just like one another.
Chris: Really?
Kiefer: Yeah, I've started getting into horoscopes. I'm told that in June I'd run into good fortune, and I bet you never guess what happened?
Chris: What?
Kiefer: I won forty goldvessel on a newsagents' scatchcard.
Chris: Makes a change from gambling the night away in Cardenas' casino, I bet?
Kiefer: It's nothing, but it's a start. Well, business is staying afloat at least. Danilo won his big fight last month, he's jetting off over the pond to the UMC soon to face Bruno Falke.
Chris: Good on him. I hope he does you proud.
Kiefer: He will, whether he wins or loses. He's my project, after all. A protégé. Just like you.
Chris: I wouldn't say that much.
Kiefer: I rate highly of you, Chris.
Chris: Even in spite of the wedding day, you don't feel like I was remotely responsible?
Kiefer: Well of course not, you never wanted my girl to lose her life like that did you?
Chris: Of course not, but as if that ceremony wasn't private enough, it should have been even more private. Santiago wanted me dead, but Florence had to... well, walk in front of the scope I suppose...
Kiefer: I don't blame you one bit for it, Chris. It's the worst thing that's ever happened to me, definitely. But I felt no anger towards you. In fact, I didn't even feel that angry towards Ivan, who fired that bullet. It was Santiago. She was behind it all. It was her order. I know they wanted you dead but someone was going to die anyway. She's omnipotent beyond belief.
Chris: So true. I just wish it was me that died after all.
Kiefer: No, don't say that.
Chris: You don't seriously want sweet, innocent Florence to have died over me?
Kiefer: No, no, NO! I wish... I just wish no one died, you know? But, as I've said... someone was... someone was just going to... I should've.
Chris: You were never going to.
Kiefer: I know, I KNOW! But my beautiful daughter had finally found someone who didn't stab her in the back. You were someone that loved her, and took great care in her. Your love was absolute and I wanted that to last forever for you both. If I'd known someone was going to get killed, I'd have jumped into the firing line of that bullet anyday.
Chris: I'm so sorry, Kiefer.
Kiefer: Don't be. Why did we have to bring this back up? You've came to see me, and I respect you for doing that. You've been good to me, Chris. You got me out of the life I hated. I'm not struggling economically, nothing.
Chris: But are you sure you feel safe?
Kiefer: Are you trying to worry me?
Chris: No, don't worry about anything. You're always under my watch. I won't let anyone lay a finger on you.
Kiefer: Tell you what, I think we need a proper catch-up. How about we go out to the pub and have a nice cold beer?
Chris: Sure, sounds just fine to me.
Chris: Oh, Kiefer... before we go... there's just one problem.
Kiefer: What's that?
Chris: I think you need to come and look at this...
Kiefer: As soon as you ask if I feel worried... then these turn up on my doorstep. Thanks very much Chris, thank you.
Chris: (Sighs) Alright... you stay right here, I'll deal with them.
Chris: Someone's up to something...
Thug: Argh!
Chris: Come and tell me why you're here!
Chris: Oi, oi! Look at me! Ok? Look at me? WHY ARE YOU HERE!?
Thug: Fuck... OFF! AGH!
Chris: Oh shit!
Chris: Sorry Kiefer, I'm not letting this one go... this is my opportunity.
Chris: OH SHIT! LOOK OUT!
Chris: Good old girl. The old Manticon's still got it. She's still got it in every bloody sense.
Builder #1: Overworked... and underpaid.
Builder #2: That's just one of many attributes to a shoddy economy...
Builder #1: Anyway, seen Foggy's new photo shoot?
Builder #2: Phwoar, too right have I! The hooters on her...!
Builder #1: Shit! Look Terry - some excitement! In fact lots of it!
Chris: You're taking me somewhere, aren't you?
Chris: Nowhere to run now...
Thug: Ah, mierda, mierda, mierda...!
Thug: Oh, fucking... fucking gilipollas. GILIPOLLAS!
Chris: Stay right where you are...
Thug: Oh man!
Chris: What are you leading us to the prison for? Is there some kind of special occasion?
Chris: SPEAK TO ME!
(Gunshot)
Thug: AGH! Fuck you!
Chris: What's your name, hmm? What's your name?
Thug: Marion Cardenas... aha, aha... (chuckles slowly)
Chris: You're quite the comedian hey? (Points gun) Why Kiefer?
Thug: Oh no, oh no! Please don't kill me...
Chris: I don't intend to. That's providing you give me the information I want to hear.
Thug: We... we didn't need Kiefer.
Chris: You did.
Thug: Why would we be there as you so happened to go there? If we wanted to kill Kiefer, we'd have turned up long before you.
Chris: Why were you there!?
Thug: We wanted you. We wanted to kill you.
Chris: Ok, so let me rephrase... why?
Thug: Because...
Chris: What do you know of Gay Ray!?
Thug: I...
Chris: No, no... DON'T GO! WHO SENT THE ORDER TO POP ME!? WHO!?
Thug: I... I... ah...
Chris: Oh, DAMN IT! DAMN IT, DAMN IT, DAMN IT! WHY!?
Priceless.
Wayne: Should've shot him in the leg, kiddo.
Isaac: Well how do you think I feel? Chris gets all the attention of the ladies. First Florence, then Ilyana seems to want to help him more than anyone else.
Rod: I think that's personal, Isaac. But it'll benefit us all when Santiago is put out of place.
Isaac: I mean, even Santiago has curves. She's a spineless, heartless, cold bitch... but for a spineless, heartless, cold bitch, you wouldn't want her any other way.
Rod: Isaac, I don't think that's necessary.
Isaac: Ah, I'm sorry man... but you know, it wouldn't make it harder to kill her at all.
Rod: She'll get her come-uppance... or we can hope. Oh, hey there. What's up?
Chris: Care to explain this... either of you? Or should we start with you, Rod?
Rod: Ok, so he's out... so what? It was a decision made with authority.
Chris: Whose authority?
Rod: Well me, along with a few dirty prison guards...
Chris: (Sighs) Barker, you seriously haven't thought this one through have you?
Rod: Hey look, I saved my brother's arse today, and if he isn't grateful for that then I don't wanna' know him.
Chris: But you saved his arse because YOU COULD Rod! Not that you should, but because you COULD! This isn't solving anything!
Rod: Wayne is a former member of the Del Bosque syndicate. He knows a thing or two.
Rod: Look, Wayne. How about you leave me to explain this one to Chris?
Wayne: Ah, ah, ah. No, I can stay. I'll provide any assistance you need, dear brother. Besides, there is something...
Rod: What's that?
Wayne: I've been desperate for one of these... care to share?
Rod: Oh... how the hell should I know? Knock yourself out.
If you thought things were ugly now, then I suppose they're only about to get a hell of a lot uglier...
Tommy: What's this going on here, then? Is it what I think it is?
Isaac: Tom, we're discussing it. It's being dealt with. There's no need to get involved.
Tommy: Oh, so you all think I'm going to walk in here and not bat an eyelid towards our boyo Wayne here? Well, well, well... you must've been a saint to get out this early, hey? You been cleaning those blood-stained prison walls until they were squeaky clean? Remembering your please's and thank you's at the dinner table? Or how about... sucking the prison guard's cock?
Rod: Tommy, I don't think you should get involved...
Tommy: Of course I should. We all should. You all are. Let me join in on the fun.
Tommy: So everything is fine now? All good and back to normal? You know as shaky as my relationship is with my partner Osborne here right now, I kind of felt a bit of sorrow in seeing poor Chris spend six months behind bars for doing something he never even did. You though? You were a long-standing member in the most perilous syndicate to place a stamp on this city. You waltzed into this very station armed, posing a threat to everyone in the station that day and the people of your country.
Wayne: I was doing a job that the guys and girls here were too petrified to do. Ninety-five percent of you somewhere, deep down, had that slight bit of support in me and my actions. That day was a major blow to the Blackjacks.
Tommy: Oh and so as a result of it, Chris' wife got killed? You know Chris... it could be argued, in fact... yes... it could very well be argued that if it weren't for this man, Florence wouldn't have been killed.
Tommy: So, Wayne... care to share?
Tommy: AGH!
Wayne: You don't understand - Kiefer was a friend of mine and so was Florence. I know that Chris and I don't see eye to eye, in fact I don't see eye to eye with much of you losers, but I respected that lady and loved that lady and would never do ANYTHING to endanger her, you understand what I'm saying?
Wayne: Lads, what I think you have here is the most pathetic excuse of a man. Treat him with care, he's dangerous. Although not so much now that your arm's probably gone to jelly. See you around, Davies.
Rod: (Chuckles) You got yourself in there a bit too deep, Thomas.
Tommy: Every one of you is going to deserve what's coming to you as a result of this. This... insanity!
Isaac: Well he seems quite upset.
Chris: That may not be a bad thing.
Tommy: Hey, it's me. Look - I don't have much time to talk. I bumped into something I didn't want to see, man, this is fucked. It's fucking fucked! Agh, we've got to meet up soon you know? It's getting out of hand.
Tommy: They just don't understand me. He won't understand what I'm trying to do for him. I told him how well I try to look after him but he always takes it the wrong way. I need your advice. Anyway, I've got to go.
Miranda: Oh, hiya Felix...
Felix: Miranda? Hey.
Miranda: Is everything ok? You look kind of rushed off your feet...
Felix: Ah, I'm a busy guy. But that doesn't mean I don't like to live my life in the slow lane.
Miranda: What are you trying to insinuate?
Felix: Nothing!
Miranda: I don't talk slow... sound boring... I'm not too blonde for you am I?
Felix: Not at all! In fact I'm sure blondes are very intuitive!
Miranda: What are you talking about? You're looking at one! You know!
Felix: I know!
Miranda: YOU know!
Felix: I know!
Miranda: So...
Felix: So...?
Miranda: So!
Felix: SO, SO, SO!
Miranda: It's the figure skating championships soon, have you been practicing?
Felix: Ah, absolutely. I'm gonna' blitz the field, darling! Check out my moves!
Miranda: Wow, how very flamboyant!
Felix: Flamboyant? Nah! I'd say, evocative.
Miranda: Evocative? How?
Felix: Of our old dancing days, Miranda!
Miranda: Absolutely! The good times! We were just youthful, fruitful teenagers who had their whole lives to look forward to and were loving every minute...!
Felix: Yes!
Miranda: It's just a pity you decided to swap me and have Amy as your new dance partner...
Felix: Well...
Miranda: Maybe that explains why you're a bit on the shit side of dancing nowadays... in fact dancing may not be the only thing you're shit at.
Felix: Aha, aha yeah! Sure, aha! Sure! Ah, ah... oh, oh... awh...
Felix: Ah well, I guess I have a dilemma at that too. Never mind, at least we're all in the same boat, eh? Chris..?
Chris: You may be shit at dancing, but shit things are happening right now. Things always outrule dancing. Things outrule anything. There's always things.
Felix: Well I'm afraid to say that I'm picked up on another 'thing'...
Chris: This day just can't get anymore hectic, can it?
Chris: So he called someone... do you have any idea who?
Felix: Oh, hang on... I think I've spotted something. Yeah, that's the ticket! A number!
Chris: Well good, I was hoping we'd find one, or else how do we discover what's going on?
Felix: Gee, ok... wise-arse. It says 'Demarius Racine... number seven-seven-six-nine-two-one'. Oh and also, it says, 'Note to self: Remind Todd that he's a twat'.
Chris: Ah, I'm not surprised. He loves to manipulate others. Say that number for me again please...
Felix: It was 'seven-seven-six-nine-two-one'. Got it?
Chris: Yep, cheers...
Chris: Hello? Demarius Racine? This is Chris Osborne. I hear you wanted to talk to me. Don't ask how I got into contact with you, I just want to know if we can meet up somewhere?
Chris: You want to meet there? Well ok then. What, in just an hour? Alright, fine. Fair enough. I'll be on my way.
Felix: You're giving me a ride?
Chris: Well, it's something for you to do I suppose.
Felix: Awesome. I was waiting for the day again when I'd become involved in this top dog stuff.
Chris: Well I guess today is your lucky day. But it's personal.
Felix: You can't tell me we're gonna' leave her all by herself.
Chris: Well I'm driving... and I'm not driving that.
Felix: I wouldn't let you - it's mine.
Chris: There we go then, I'm driving. You probably don't even know your way around this city. Leave things to me.
Felix: The joys of being a Lystow CID detective!
Felix: You tell me what you want done, ok?
Chris: You don't need to do anything. Leave everything to me. This isn't your fight.
Victor: Eh, what's this?
Victor: Oh... Racine, Racine, Racine...
Ilyana: Hello Mr Hobbs.
Victor: Ah, Ilyana! Rory! How are my favourite agents doing this fine evening?
Ilyana: Very well, Victor.
Rory: Likewise.
Victor: Good.
Ilyana: We thought it would be appropriate to report back to you on our progress with Chris.
Rory: Indeed, we've uncovered some interesting revelations from him.
Ilyana: And we're sorry to report it, but it seems he trusts us two more than he does you, or Tommy for that matter.
Victor: I'm not surprised. Davies has been off with him though, even me, to be truthful. I want Osborne to meet Racine, but Davies somehow doesn't.
Ilyana: We've been enlightened on the drugs operation too, the one which regards the Hansens, a certain Boubacar and potentially the Del Bosques.
Victor: Yeah, I know how Tommy isn't the trustworthy type, but I know he's good. He just goes about everything in completely the wrong fashion.
Rory: That's not strictly a bad thing, Mr Hobbs... but despite your intentions, we've ordered Osborne to keep a close eye on Tommy for the time being.
Ilyana: That is ok, isn't it?
Victor: It's absolutely fine. You know best.
Rory: Well, no, no, no. Don't be going and making sweeping statements like that Mr Hobbs. Our faith is in you and your team. But you're making use of our assistance, that's good. You're learning.
Victor: I've learnt all my life. I've learnt pretty much everything there is to know. But I know now that the majority of things are out of control. Something's beginning to tell me I'm just not leader-material.
Ilyana: Maybe he's right. Maybe he can't keep them in working order. Especially considering how Wayne Barker's unauthorised release was taken...
Chris: Well, here we are.
Felix: Try not to get yourself killed. From what I'm understanding so far, these guys that you and Tommy are dealing with aren't necessarily the guys to get on the wrong side of.
Chris: He's on our side. Or at least I think. Let's see.
Felix: Are you just going to leave me here?
Chris: Yeah, it's the plan.
Felix: Oh...
This may be the breakthrough. I mean if you split those words up, Chris has broke through something. Tommy's stronghold, perhaps. There's something he's hiding... yet not all hope in him is lost.
Because trust as well is just as much beginning to be lost in others too.
Chris: You must be Racine? Demarius Racine?
Demarius: Take a seat.
Chris: I take it as a yes then?
Demarius: What do you expect? I told you to sit down, didn't I? I don't let strangers sit opposite me, do I? I'm in the 'shadows'... (chuckles)
Chris: Ah, I've heard that word too much today.
Demarius: I've heard every bit about it.
Chris: So my colleague Tommy called you up and used you as a headline I believe?
Demarius: Yep, that was when he got pissed off over Wayne Barker's release.
Chris: That wasn't a release per se...
Demarius: I soon learned, indeed. I'm glad we finally met up though, Chris. It's nice.
Chris: Tommy's up to something then? He didn't want you to see me. Do you have any idea why?
Demarius: You don't need to worry about him. Perhaps he's getting paranoid - he doesn't want me to say anything that will convince you this operation is something of a fad.
Chris: A fad, how?
Demarius: I understand that when you first heard Tommy's plan you didn't find it too tasteful...
Chris: Not one bit.
Demarius: Well listen to me - I understand. He's a master of worrying people, manipulating people and putting them out of place, out of business... whatever. As a matter of fact, I'm convinced that he's actually harmless. His pride is so sought-after, it's his confidence that makes him what he is.
Chris: Right...
Demarius: I've learnt that he wants to act like the bad guy, but in truth he's a good guy with strange morals. He just wants to scare and rule you, Chris.
Chris: Really?
Demarius: Yeah, don't fall for it.
Chris: But won't that change him?
Demarius: He won't change - he's Tommy Davies III.
Chris: Care to explain to me then a bit of an insight into the DEB's plans?
Demarius: Ever since news reached us of people in high places doing business with the Hansens' drug empire, we've wanted to take action. They're dangerous, and extremely powerful. You won't know, but Boubacar's going to get a great surprise when he takes those pills. In fact he probably already has. They'll probably change him forever. We need the Hansen's working in the pharmaceutical industry, but from what I've learnt, their stepfather lead them down this path too soon.
Chris: And you want them stopped?
Demarius: We want them stopped. We're a team now. But I know what this means to you. With the possibility of the Del Bosques getting friendly with our guinea pig Boubacar, you're bound to be interested. Or at least that's what Tommy said.
Chris: Is this legal?
Demarius: We don't know, but that's probably because there's no law on it as of yet - what we're doing is what no one has ever done before. That's what launches all this skepticism. It's an unknown. But I'm determined to prove people wrong. This will work. It has to. And it will help a lot of people if it goes to plan.
Chris: I guess you make a fair point. Maybe I'm beginning to find myself putting trust into some people now. It's just a pity they aren't cops. They're outsiders.
Demarius: They're in the shadows... yet they're being dragged out. You don't always have to go into them.
